Museum Zitadelle Jülich

The Jülich Citadel Museum takes you 2000 years into the past.

The Jülich Citadel Museum takes you 2000 years into the past. The citadel, a fortress with a ducal castle in the style of the Italian High Renaissance, is considered to be the oldest complex of its kind north of the Alps. The almost completely preserved and restored fortress with its ramparts, bastions and casemates can be explored on your own or as part of a guided tour. Exhibitions in the castle cellar present periods of history: The time under Emperor Augustus, the glorious Renaissance and the Prussian city. The oeuvre of the landscape painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer is presented in the powder magazine. All information about current exhibitions, guided tours and opening times can be found on the website.
