Renaissancestadt Jülich
Jülich
Jülich looks back on an eventful history: after the great city fire of 1547, it was redesigned as an ideal Renaissance fortress, whose star-shaped structures and impressive citadel still characterize the cityscape today. Visitors can experience an example of early modern urban architecture here, complemented by cultural offerings and leisure facilities such as the Brückenkopf Park. At the same time, Jülich has developed into a modern research city. At Forschungszentrum Jülich, international science teams are working on topics such as sustainable energy, climate models, supercomputing and neuroscience. This mixture of historical substance and innovative science makes Jülich a place where past and future stand side by side. Visitors to the city will discover both silent testimonies to its strategic importance and the dynamism of one of Europe's most important research locations.
