indeland: Rurauen-Berg-Route (Radroute 5)
Description
Explore the region around the town of Linnich, home to the German Stained Glass Museum, on the almost 18 km long Rurauen-Berg route.
All indeland cycle routes run predominantly on car-free paths, cycle paths along roads and in some cases on low-traffic side roads with predominantly flat gradients.
On the Rurauen-Berg route, you will get to know the town of Linnich and its surroundings. It is well worth visiting the German stained glass museum, which is located along the route, offers 1,400 square meters of exhibition space and is the only museum in Germany to date that focuses on stained glass from the 19th century to the present day. The route also offers walkers and cyclists wonderful recreational opportunities in the unique "Ruraue" cultural landscape. A particular highlight is the imposing Rurwehr weir in the Linnich district of Rurdorf. Destroyed during the Second World War, the weir was repaired between 1947 and 1948. However, instead of the two weir heads, a straight concrete wall was built on each side of the river bank and a fish ladder was also erected on the left bank. Today, the imposing Rur weir is an excursion destination and a characteristic feature of the "Ruraue" cultural landscape.
