Eifelverein Düren
Merzenich
Hiking keeps you young. Anyone who doubts this should go on a tour with the members of the Eifelverein. Anyone who is interested in excursions in a group and would like to go on a journey of discovery can join in. This applies to "locals" and tourists alike.
"We invite you to explore new paths and experience nature together," says hiking supervisor Wolfgang Bachem from the Düren local group, inviting you to take part in one of the numerous hikes. The local group is celebrating its 125th birthday this year. And the birthday boy is pretty sprightly for his age. Hardly surprising, as the 400 or so members are out and about in nature almost every free minute, and the calendar is correspondingly full.
There is the right group, the right offer for every hiker, from junior to senior, from occasional hiker to expert. Route suggestions are presented on the homepage (www.eifelverein-dueren.de) and guided hikes are announced. In principle, anyone can join in at short notice. "However, if you want to carpool to the starting point, it is advisable to contact the respective hiking guide briefly," says hiking guide Wolfgang Bachem. New members of the Eifelverein are welcome at any time.
One of the aims of the association is to experience nature in community - and to sensitize people to a careful approach to nature. "When very different people pursue a shared hobby, camaraderie and friendships can develop," says Wolfgang Bachem. This is not the only reason why a stop for refreshments after a hike, a cozy get-together in good company, is part of the Eifelverein. The 2017 hiking schedule is also available at iPUNKT on Düren's market square.
Numerous hikes are planned for the summer. Here are three recommendations:
Wednesday, 14 June: Hike to the Solwaster dolmen, along Hoëgne, Statte and Sâwe (17 kilometers). Meeting point for carpooling is at 8.45 am at the Lidl parking lot, Monschauer Straße, Düren.
Sunday, July 23: On the trail of nature - botanical hike through the Drover Heide (16 kilometers). Departure with the Rurtalbahn at 8.50 am from Düren main station to Kreuzau.
Sunday, August 6: From the Brandenburg Gate to the sources of the Wehe (17 kilometers). Meeting point: 9 a.m. by car at Düren's Marienkirche, Hoeschplatz.
