The biggest Folk Festival in region, the famous Annakirmes, known well beyond the borders of Düren, brings in almost 1 million visitors and so it rightly deserves to be known as the highlight of the Düren event calendar! About 170 carnies, showmen and merchants turn the place at the river Rur into a colourful funfair world. Numerous fairground rides for children, ghost trains, amusing businesses, games, lotteries, fast-paced and comfortable fairground rides give the “Annakirmes” its special flair! Traditional highlights of the funfair are the family day on Funfair Tuesday and the large brilliant fireworks of the carnies and showmen on funfair Friday. Special events, e.g. the World Championship in cherry pit far-distance spitting (on the dogs training ground directly beside the fairground) as well as senior afternoons round off the varied offer of the funfair. The “Annakirmes” place at the street “Aachener Straße” is easily accessible from the city centre downstream the river Rur.
