Rurwehr
In 1874, the old Rur weir made of stones and wood could no longer withstand the force of the water and the work of the mill was in danger. With the help of Otto Intze, Professor of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering at the Royal Rhenish-Westphalian Polytechnic School (now RWTH) in Aachen, a new Rur weir was built. The new Rur weir was a fixed dam that stood at right angles to the direction of flow. The structure was destroyed during the Second World War and the water no longer flowed sufficiently into the mill pond. After the Second World War, the Rur weir was straightened with concrete walls. A fish ladder was also built on the left bank.
The imposing Rurwehr is an excursion destination and landscape landmark that forms an integral part of the "Ruraue" cultural landscape. A rest and adventure site invites you to linger.
